  • Bolster the security of Montana’s agricultural economy through producer-ownership and democratic control at all states of the food supply chain.

Our Story

When Ron Vandevanter decided to retire, the local ranchers became very concerned that we would lose our processing plant to another subdivision. Five ranching families banded together and were able to secure a USDA backed loan to purchase the facility. Ron held out for us during this process and thanks to the USDA, Ron, and persistent ranchers; the Cooperative was formed and is now serving 40 Montana farms and ranches as members, four Montana fairs and many non-member customers are also able to use our services.

Ron Vandevanter’s daughter Jeni continues to work at the processing plant as the General Manager. Jeni helps us maintain the great traditions from when the facility was originally operated by Ron’s Father and Uncle as fox pens in the 1930s before evolving into a slaughter and meat processing facility. Jeni is also shepherding in new traditions and processes, shaking up the old. Jeni’s Grandmother (Ron’s Mother) recently retired at age 90, although she lives down the road and drops by to check up on things from time to time.
